Mr. Brack, a beloved language arts teacher who has worked at South for 11 years, said farewell to the WW-P school district in October. He left to become the new English Director at South Brunswick High School.
Ever since he was a kid, Mr. Brack loved to read. “I remember the book fairs at my elementary school. They were my favorite days,” said Mr. Brack.
But what really motivated Mr. Brack to pursue a career in teaching language arts was one of his own teachers. “My senior year English class put me on a path to becoming a teacher. Mr. Roush was simply an amazing teacher. He took the time to get to know all of his students, was always in a good mood and excited to talk about literature, and he seemed to be a genuinely good person who cared about his students.”
Fast forward to 2013 when Mr. Brack’s dream came true. He took a job working in South’s English Department.
When Mr. Brack first came to South, his impact was immediate. “He definitely comes across as very serious, but clearly motivated by what he does,” said language arts teacher Mr. Michael Novak. “He is the type of person who is always looking to improve, always trying to make things better, always figuring out better ways of doing things.”
Mr. Brack approaches teaching the same way. One of his former AP Lang students, Amit Sail (‘25), said, “He shows us how to do it, then we practice again and again and again. That’s the entire philosophy that Mr. Brack has been able to instill.”
Sail continued, “He shows students exactly what success looks like, then helps them get to that level.”
Mr. Brack made sure that each of his students took time to become the best versions of themselves. “He makes sure to really get to know them on an individual basis,” said Mr. Novak. “He also has a really good understanding of a student’s strengths and weaknesses and works to help people build on their strengths and overcome their weaknesses.”
This personal connection extends far beyond the classroom. After school, Mr. Brack could be found in the school’s weight room mentoring students on their fitness journey. “Mr. Brack basically shaped how I am as a weight lifter, and my approach to lifting weights,” said Sail.
Though Mr. Brack Has left South, his memory and legacy will be deeply cemented within the students he taught and the faculty he became so beloved in.
“This whole time, he’s been a teacher and a mentor not only to me but hundreds of other students,” said Sail. “As he goes on to be a supervisor, I hope that he still gets to be a mentor to students like me because I know firsthand the impact he had on me. I hope he can continue to give the students he meets in the future the same opportunities that he gave me.”
